I was back in the studio with my photographer friend Ahmet Gül / PTS with whom I have collaborated for lovely images of my work for the last ten years. This time help came from my husband Utku who is an artist and our son, Mengu for a wonderful day. Designer Aysin Sungur prepared this costume for the sake of this pic only…an image where I wanted to show more than an image. A reflection upon how things appear and how things really are lived from within. From a distance it is surely a romantic and smooth thing to be a harpist. But in reality the balance and stamina needed to embrace the instrument and the career is nothing less than acrobacy. For me it has been a very engaging lifelong endeavour as if trying to fly on the ground.

Praised by the Washington Post as a “major talent of international caliber”, for Şirin Pancaroğlu, discovering a variety of musical identities for the harp is a central endeavor. Trained as a classical musician, the leading harpist of Turkey is equally active in the realm of Turkish traditional music, improvisation, electronic music, tango and semi-staged performances as she is in mainstream harp repertoire to which she contributes with new works commissioned for her. Regular collaborations with performers and composers of diverse backgrounds have led Pancaroğlu to cross boundaries between musical styles often resulting in music that has been perceived as opening the path to new genres.
